Making soup from scratch is a great way to get started in cooking. From browning the aromatics and blooming spices to layering flavor and adding finishers, soup making has it all! In this video, Mrs. Dornberg shows you step by step how to make a basic lentil soup without a recipe using basic ingredients you probably already have on hand!! She also shares plenty of tips, tricks and helpful facts along the way!

Here are the “rough” estimates of what I used in preparing the soup. Remember these are just GUIDELINES, adjust to what you have and your own taste preferences!
🥕Avocado oil or other high heat fat to coat bottom of the pan
🥕1 chopped onion, ½ cup chopped celery, 1 cup chopped carrot
🥕1 tablespoon each minced garlic, dry basil, dry oregano, chopped thyme
🥕15 ounce can tomato sauce (can use ¼ cup tomato paste or can of diced tomatoes)
🥕4 cups vegetable stock (more as needed at the end to thin)
🥕1 ½ cups rinsed and soaked lentils
🥕chopped fresh kale leaves (1 bunch)
🥕Lemon juice, salt, pepper to taste
